Diny Bleumer

Rhody Family Funeral Home

“Behold and let go of a life lived well. All that is you lives on within us.”

Berendina Gerharda Schut was welcomed into the world on April 3, 1927. Diny was the youngest of a family of seven, with one brother and five sisters. The Schut family lived in Holland. Growing up, hard work was instilled into Diny. She worked as a farmhand and also as a housekeeper, helping on her parents’ farm. While working on the farm, she met a young man by the name of John Bleumer. The two fell in love and were married on September 2, 1954. After enjoying a few years together as newlyweds, they welcomed their first daughter Ria in 1956. Shortly after, they welcomed Tony in 1958, and their family was complete with the arrival of twins Francis & Petra in 1962. As a young family, the Bleumer family packed up and immigrated to Canada in 1975. When they arrived in Canada, they first settled in a rental house in Durham. In 1977, their big dreams came true, purchasing a dairy farm on the 8th Sideroad outside of Chesley, which is still in the family today. They had tie stalls at the time, which took more time, however they always made sure to make time to spend as a family.

Between raising a young family and cooking the meals, Diny was always up bright and early to do chores. In between all of the other chores, she spent countless hours working in her vegetable garden, maintaining the food that would provide for her family and also enjoying the bright colours in her flower garden. After the chores were all done and her family was fed, she still managed to make time to knit and sew. Diny’s biggest priority in her life was her children and her grandchildren. She loved when her grandchildren would come to visit and it was always exciting to hear what they had going on in their lives.

Diny passed away at Hanover Care Centre on Sunday, March 19, 2023, in her 96th year.

Loving mother of Ria of Vancouver, B.C., Tony (Astrid) of R.R. #4 Chesley, and Petra DeBoer of Guelph. Cherished grandmother of Evan (Tessa), Daniel (Krysta), Celina (Sean), Kye (Laura), Sam, Tessa, Marco, Dustin, and Gus, and great grandmother of Aubrey, Jack, Lincoln, Brady, Ridley, and Seth. Diny will be missed by the Bleumer and Schut families. Predeceased by her husband John, her daughter Francis Vermeulen, her son-in-law Theo DeBoer, her brother, and five sisters.

A private graveside service will be held in the spring in Chesley Cemetery.

Memorial donations to Elgin Abbey Residents’ Fund or the Chesley Hospital Foundation would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
