Howie Fidler

Rhody Family Funeral Home

In loving memory of Howarth (Howie) Fidler, who passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, July 17, 2024.

Howie was a devoted husband of 54 years to Margaret, a cherished brother to Tom (Joan), a brother-in-law to Marilyn (Rich), Bruce (Deborah), Stuart, Kate (Wayne), and Donna (Jim), and a proud father to his three boys: Robert (Beverley), Derek (deceased), and Brent (Kate). He was also a beloved grandfather to his three granddaughters, Alison, Michelle, and Lauren, who brought him immense joy. He will also be missed by his extended hunting and fishing family with whom he spent endless amounts of unforgettable memories, card games, and laughter with.

Howie dedicated 30 years of his life to serving his community as a devoted police officer at the Waterloo Regional Police Service, often working alongside his brother. His unwavering commitment to justice and his clever approach as a detective made a lasting impact on many lives.

Those who knew Howie will remember his easy-going spirit, remarkable patience, and ability to remain calm in any situation. He faced life’s challenges with grace and never complained, embodying a strength that inspired everyone around him. Howie was also renowned for making the best maple syrup, a true labour of love that brought smiles to family gatherings as well as always having a winning hand in any card game.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to CarePartners and the dedicated staff at Chapman House for their exceptional care, compassion, and support during this challenging time. Their commitment ensured Howie’s comfort and dignity, and for that, the family will be forever grateful.

Howie leaves behind a legacy of love, family, and cherished memories. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Marg, our condolences go out to you and your family. I have very fond memories of Howie when he was my road sergeant and also my partner in detectives for 2 yrs. Mary even has a few stories herself. She wasn’t too sure who was the bad influence. I am glad I even visited for a day to help lay some logs on your shed. The most he laid in one day. He’ll be missed but my memories will stay forever

Dear Marg. and family, my thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time. Howie was a great friend and workmate at WRPS. Howie was well liked and respected by all that knew him on the job and away from the job. What made Howie different was his ability to connect with people, a skill you don’t learn in school. Howie and Marg shared their home (and shed) with his hunting pals for many years and was always ready to do just one more drive.

He made a difference and will be missed,

Al
