Kenneth John Warmington of Chesley, passed away at South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Chesley on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, in his 81st year.
Ken was a sports enthusiast through and through. From a young age, he took to baseball, and excelled as an excellent 1st baseman, with a great bat. When he was not playing himself, he was usually coaching and thoroughly enjoyed working with the ladies’ teams in the 70’s and 80’s. Once the fall arrived, Ken could often be found in the Chesley Curling Club, where again he thrived. Here he also held the title of ice maker for a number of years, where he was often praised by many for his hard work. He also enjoyed lawn bowling in his later years, always eager to remain as active as he could. A testament to his sporting successes can be seen in his countless trophies throughout his home. If he wasn’t involved in the sport, he was watching it. Like most of us, he was often let down by the Leafs and Blue Jays, and he wasn’t afraid to joke about it. When not watching sports, Ken was usually tuned into some form of politics, which he liked to debate with others. In recent years he developed a real fondness for the Big Bang Theory.
Ken was a well-respected mason within the community and could be counted on to do the job right. His handiwork will outlive all of us, as it can be seen and appreciated throughout Chesley and much of the surrounding area. After a long, hard day’s work, Ken could often be found at the Hotel or Legion enjoying a cold beer, where I am told he could be a little chattier, rather than his normal quiet self. Ken had a special bond with his Aunt Norma (Warmington) and enjoyed the time they spent together, particularly after her retirement, when she returned to Chesley. Together, they often enjoyed each other’s company and a meal together on the weekends. Ken was also an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed snowmobiling in his younger years, as well as fishing and hunting. Although a quiet soul, Ken will be missed by all who knew him.
Beloved brother of Gail (John) Pringle of Chatsworth, Bob (Joelene Mitchell-Warmington) of Brantford, and David (Betty-Lou) of St. George. Loving uncle of Grant (Lorenda), Sherri (Bruce), Sandra, Jacklyn (Jarred), and Jordan (Ana), and great-uncle of Mackenzie and Mitchell. Dear friend of Bruce’s children, Jevon and Maylon. Ken was predeceased by his brother Bill, aunt Norma Warmington, and his parents, John and Dorothy (Tolton) Warmington.
A private graveside service will be held with an inurnment to follow in Chesley Cemetery.
Memorial donations to the Chesley Hospital Foundation or charity of your choice would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
Ken was a superior lawn bowler and always a quiet person; I picked him for my team one time and I wanted him to skip the last game of the tournament and he WOULD NOT! He said he would Lead and I should Skip! He had the end all laid out and I never had to do anything and we won! What a lesson for me! A great Lead is game in hand. He was a very special kind of fellow.
We have been missing him for years now.
Our sympathies to his family and friends.
Our sincere condolences to Ken’s family. He was an integral part of the Chesley Curling Club as a member, ice maker and curler. Ken didn’t say a lot but when he did, you listened.
