Tim Strucke

Rhody Family Funeral Home

Timothy Charles was born Tuesday, January 2, 1962 in Hanover to Marilyn Marie (Stade) and Clifford Edgar Strucke. He was an identical twin, with his brother being Terry Edgar. Sadly Terry was killed in a car accident when he was just sixteen years of age. Tim was one of a fairly large family; Jean, Terry, Ken, Mike, Brenda and Jeo-ann.

As a child, Tim moved around quite a bit, changing schools frequently. By Grade Ten, Tim was finished with school. Once out on his own, Tim held a number of jobs including Interforest in Durham, a chicken plant in Walkerton and working with his brother Mike in Hamilton. A cute story is told of the time he fell off a ladder into the bucket of a front-end loader. This was well after he had already broken his back in a fall, but this time a nickname stuck – Bucket!  You will have to ask Mike to tell you the entire story!

Tim enjoyed smoking DK’s and when he drank his beverage of choice was Coors Beer! Tomato soup was not one of Tim’s favourites but little did he know that his favourite cabbage rolls and meatloaf were made with it! He also did not like apple sauce. Yet someone naughty (who will remain nameless to protect the guilty!) would often put a teaspoon of it on Tim’s lips when he fell asleep on the couch! Watching the Hamilton Tiger-Cats was a great pastime. This love for the Tiger-Cats was so immense that Murray even built Tim a showcase to display all of his memorabilia. Tim’s favourite colour was orange and just a few days before his death his new to him scooter had been painted orange, just for him! Sadly, he never got to use it.

Despite not having much, Tim as a generous man, most willing to give the shirt off his back to anyone who asked. He was a trusting fellow, likely to his own detriment and in turn, he was very trustworthy. Showing appreciation for even the smallest of things in life was a broad trait of Tim’s personality. He loved it when Aunt Carol would bring food over to him or would have him over for a home cooked meal and having a few beers around the campfire. As Tim wrote, “My Aunt is the most special person in my life. When I was feeling bad about myself she always had a way of picking me back up.”

Tim was a hard worker when he could work. When he couldn’t work, Tim enjoyed playing games such as bingo and solitaire on the computer. In his younger years, Tim was a great dancer, very light on his feet given his size. Sue remembers well Tim’s graceful dancing at the Interforst parties. It was hard to take one’s eyes off of him. He loved to listen to “Diggin’ Up Bones” by Randy Travis, “If There’s a Phone in Heaven” by Mike Manuel, “Missing an Angel” by Johnny Reid and “Here I Go Again On My Own” by White Snake. All of which says something about the sense of solitude in his life and how much he missed his mother Marilyn. Tom once wrote that losing his Mom and his Grandmother Violet (Schlorff) Strucke Marrow were the things that made him cry. He was also deeply affected by those who talked badly about him, running him down.

Giving big Teddy Bear hugs was another aspect of Tim’s disposition. He never said the words “Good-bye” but rather “Later.” Tim loved to talk about the good old times with relatives. He relished fishing and would often enjoy driving around with others. Tim had a natural affinity for cats and dogs, well, all animals if the truth be known. Time spent with Dean and Daniel, Brad and his family, as well as  Jeff, Danielle and Luke was time well spent. Having lunch with his son Joshua or just sitting and chatting together always put a smile on Tim’s face. While living in Chesley, Tim spent a lot of time at his sister Jean’s home. Even Christmases were spent in pyjamas sitting around the Christmas tree in the Brow home. Tim was a big kid at heart.

Apparently, Danielle makes the “best damn muffins and pies.” Tim continued, “I couldn’t thank her enough. I always called her Dee.” Tim also wrote of his appreciation for his Uncle Murray, “My Uncle Murray was very special to my heart. I called him Uncle Dunk.” Now, no one knows why he called Murray “Dunk.” Well, either that or they are not saying! Showing even more appreciation, Tim wrote that his close friend Linda Tackleberry did so much for him. “Too much to mention” Tim penned. This also involved bringing him food. He went on to include Dirk Schuit (who died just a week before Tim) and Beverly Vance who took him to see his Aunt Carol. A great story is told of Carol helping Tim prepare for Jeff and Danielle’s wedding day! Black hair dye was bought, and used, for his beard and hair! Shoes were bought, clothes were readied and a haircut was had!
