Catharine McKeeman

Rhody Family Funeral Home

Catharine Alice McKeeman (Grant) lived by the words of a popular song, “Don’t Worry Be Happy.”

Her recent battle with Leukemia, did not diminish Catharine’s positive outlook for her world, family or friends. In the end, Catharine died surrounded by her family and devoted loved ones all by her side on Tuesday, August 25, 2015. She was 76.

Born in Paisley on March 16, 1939 she was the first child born to the late Dr. Donald Duncan and Edith (Hopper) Campbell. She attended public school in Paisley and graduated from Walkerton High School, whereby she continued her education with office management courses. She had a great love for people and especially helping others which helped draw her to the field of education. She spent a number of years in different office roles at Paisley Central School, Bluewater District School Board and Walkerton District Secondary School. Her outgoing personality and social butterfly stance also led to her involvement in the Eastern Star, U.C.W., Bruce County Historical Society and Bruce County Campers just to name a few.

If you met “Chatty Cathy” on the street or in the coffee shop she always had a positive attitude, infectious smile and words of encouragement. Her motto of living life one day at a time could often be seen in her loving and joyful personality and was reflected in her common phrase, “It’s all good”.  She was an encyclopedia of knowledge and would happily give her two cents if asked to.

During her recent health struggles the family saw God’s healing touch each and every day. Likewise, Catharine felt strongly about the care she received. She believed wholeheartedly in the power of love, kindness and mutual understanding. She made sure to tell people in her life that she loved them and continually emphasized everything was going to be ok.

Her love lives on in her family and friends: her husband and companion James Rich; her children Donald Grant, Alan (Kim) Grant, and Sharon Grant (Mike Lakatos); her grandchildren Eric, Sarah, and Colin; Jim’s children Joseph (Donna McKeag), Peter (Michelle), Mary Lou Kassam (Tony Parsons), David (Robert Pritchard), Rob (Charlotte), Paula Rich (Martin Murray), Michael (Julie), Sharon Rich (Nicole Neverson), Roseanne (Bart Kersten), and their families; and her siblings Wayne (Sheila) Campbell, Mac (Pat) Campbell, Lynne Laverty (Fred Giles), and Ian Campbell.

Catharine was predeceased by her husbands Lloyd Grant and Ron McKeeman and her parents Donald and Edith (Hopper) Campbell.

Visitation will be held at Knox United Church, Paisley (399 Goldie Street) on Saturday from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. with an Eastern Star service beginning at 8 p.m. A Celebration of Catharine’s Life will be held at the church on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at 2 p.m. Rev. Keith Reynolds celebrant. Interment Sanctuary Park Cemetery, Port Elgin.

Memorial donations to Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
