Darlene Thomson

Rhody Family Funeral Home

Darlene Alice Thomson, who had a passion for arts and photography, died suddenly on Saturday, October 17, 2015 after a short stay in Hamilton General Hospital. She was 62 years young.

Darlene’s self-portrait began as the youngest child of the late William Alexander and Grietje (Liefhebber) Lueck. She was born in Oakville on July 21, 1953 and attended Pine Grove Public School, followed by Thomas A. Blakelock High School. Darlene’s life path led her to health care and helping others, where she began her career as a Lab Technician in a local doctor’s office. Her family began to grow a few years later after she married Brian Thomson. Together they welcomed their first child, Casey. Six years later, the three welcomed a fourth, Aimee who completed their family. Darlene’s attention then turned to her young family.

It was in this snap shot of her short life, many of her qualities and talents came to life. She was very artistic, loved to paint, draw, and craft jewelry and leather. Her talents allowed her to design and create many heart-felt pieces for friends and family. She also enjoyed gardening and flowers, especially anything that was purple as it was her favourite colour. In these years, she also perfected the art of her many ‘home cooked’ meals which in later years warranted calls from her now grown up children for cooking advice. Her kind-heart and firecracker personality were always appreciated by her close friends and family.

In the late 90’s Darlene met a new companion, Brian Thomas. Together they enjoyed the later years of her life as they watched their families and photo albums grow. They enjoyed many common interests which included their love of Indian cuisine as well as watching sprint car racing. This included Friday night trips to the Ohsweken Speedway to enjoy the races live and watching NASCAR on weekend television.

Her love of cars was apparent to many, as she was once the proprietor of Best-Dar’n-Detail, a car detailing company.

Her fun, vibrant and caring personality will live on in her companion and best friend Brian; children Casey (Jessica Pringle), Aimee Thomson (Michael Silveira); grandchildren Brodie and Chloe and many cousins from the Netherlands, USA and Canada. Darlene will be missed by Brian’s children, Nathan, Liesl and Gillian and their families; her brother Larry Lueck (Sue Campbell), as well as her sister-in-law Lynne, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her children’s father, Brian Thomson.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Darlene’sLife will be held at Bronte Legion on Saturday November 14th from 6 p.m. till 12:30 a.m

A private memorial will follow for close family members next spring where Darlene will be reunited with her beloved parents, in Chesley Cemetery.

To honour her memory, memorial donations to Casey Thomson for her grandchildren would be appreciated by Darlene’s family. For further information please contact Casey, [email protected].
