The Lord in His great grace and mercy took home Gijsbert (Gilbert) VanBrenk of Walkerton on Friday, January 19, 2024, at South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Chesley. Gilbert died peacefully with family at his side.
Dearly loved husband of Mieke (deRooij). Beloved father of Jenny (John) Belder of Hamilton, Ingrid (Ron) DeVisser of R.R. #1 Chesley and Bert (Tracey-Ann) VanBrenk of Peterborough. Cherished Opa of Jake (Robin), Lisa (Jeremy), Mark (Amy), Carolyn (John), Dan (Emily), Greg (Holly), Adam (Alicia), Megan (Dave), Noah (Eileigh), Erik (Justine), and Hannah (Jon). Great-Opa loved and was loved by his great-grandchildren Kai, Asher, Carter, Sophia, Olivia, Dean, Jessica, Brooke, Leah, Olivia, Daphne, Lauren, Neil, Cecilia, Jacob, Lucy, Gibson, Josie, Savannah, Reuben, Melanie, Julia, Ava, and Thomas. Gilbert was predeceased by his brothers Gerrit, Frans, Hans, and Henk, by his sisters Fijke vandeLagemaat, Siny deVries and Bep vanderMeer and by his parents Gerrit-Jan and Hendrina (vanSoelen) vanBrenk.
A funeral service celebrating Gilbert’s life will be held at the Klages Mill, Chesley on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at 11 a.m., with a time of fellowship to follow. A video recording of Gilbert’s service will be available on this page of the funeral home website on Monday, January 29th. Spring interment in Chesley Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Word and Deed or the Chesley Hospital Foundation would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
