Janet Yule

Rhody Family Funeral Home

The world has lost a doting and devoted woman who always put her husband, children, grandchildren and community first. Janet Louise Yule will be remembered as a strong, smart, selfless and creative woman whose family was the center of her life. Growing up as the eldest child, Janet quickly learned how to care for people, to be responsible and to make sacrifices for family and friends. Her upbringing also meant a lifetime of unconditional love for those around her. Janet loved having her family around and the more family the better! At the same time, Janet also greatly appreciated her quiet, alone time.

Janet was born October 22, 1961 in Guelph and attended the “smart” high school – GCVI. Late in high school she moved up to Chesley and on October 15, 1983 she married her childhood sweetheart Jamie Kenneth Yule. Two years later this young couple were blessed with Rob, and then John, Lloyd and Alissa. It has been said that perfection was attained when Alissa was born.

Traditionalist would not be a word that describes Janet. She was ambitious, returning to school as an adult and attaining a diploma from Georgian College in business and further courses in carpentry. Working with wood was a passionate pastime for Janet. She created a dog house, resembling an actual house, and worked tirelessly for Habitat for Humanity constructing a home in Tara.

At some point Janet was roped into helping with the Santa Claus parade in Tara and ten years later was still volunteering her time and talent. Camping with her family, driving through the countryside, taking pictures of scenery, shopping at the Southampton Market, antiques, checking out architecture were just some of Janet’s many passions. To know Janet is also to know of her absolute love of animals, including Shadow, Duke, a bunny, and twenty-three or so cats! She shared a love of Sci-Fi Fantasy books with her children. As if this isn’t enough, Janet was also an accomplished seamstress, cook and baker. She is famous for her Chocolate Chip cookies. It was an accomplishment if the cookie dough even made it to the oven. Janet personally loved anything chocolate!

Janet was the designate “go to person,” care-giver, everyone’s conscience and strength in her family. She will be missed terribly. After a courageous battle with breast cancer, and with her never ending positive attitude and brave face intact, Janet Louise Yule slipped the yoke of her illness and unwillingly left behind her loving family on Monday, October 19, 2015.

Cherished wife of Jamie of R.R. #1 Dobbinton and most dedicated mother of Rob (Trish) of Port Elgin, John (Hiliary) of Chesley, Lloyd (Amanda) of Wiarton, and Alissa Yule of Tobermory. Loving and proud grandmother to Shyla, Arianna and Annabelle. Janet also leaves to grieve: her parents Judy (Toms) Ballah and Jim Dyson, her brother Jeff Ballah, half-brother Kieran John (Andrea) Ballah and half-sister Kristin (Drew) Wood, Jamie’s brother Jeff and Brenda and their family, Andrew, Ava, Amy, Lilly and Jamie’s parents, Ken and Eleanor Yule. Janet was predeceased by her nephew Cory, sister-in-law Lisa Yule and Jamie’s grandparents Lawrence “Lorne” and Mabel Yule.

Visitation will be held at Rhody Family Funeral Home, Chesley on Friday from 2 – 4 and 6 – 9 p.m. where a funeral service celebrating Janet’s life will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 1 p.m. Interment in Chesley Cemetery.

Memorial donations to Habitat for Humanity Canada or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated in her memory.
