Marguerite (Donovan) Golem died peacefully on October 10, 2010 in her 97th year.
Marguerite was the oldest of eight children. Although money was in short supply during the depression of the 1930’s, she was determined to follow in her mother’s footsteps and become a teacher. She reached her goal by graduating from Stratford Normal School in 1935. Marguerite taught Public School in Sullivan and Derby Townships for seven years before marrying Elmer J. Golem in 1942. They farmed together for the next 45 years before retiring to Chesley.
Marguerite’s lifelong passion was to experience and share the joy of learning. She often said “I would have gone to school my whole life if that had been possible.”
Much loved mother of David (Joyda Rueggeberg) of Steenburg Lake, Keith (Jane) of Waterloo and Peter (Theresa) of London. Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Deanna, Amber, Kevin, Jeff, Tim, Angela and Emily; by her great-grandchildren Riley Meier and Lowen Dusselier; and by all of her nieces and nephews.
Marguerite leaves to mourn, one sister Ruth Sinclair of Chatham; three brothers, Howard of Owen Sound, Walter of Picton, and Bob (Barbara) of Peterborough and brother-in-law Wilfred (Marion) Golem of Hanover.
She was predeceased in 1994 by Elmer, her devoted husband for 52 years. Also predeceased by her sister Mary Golem; two brothers, John and Jerry Donovan; special sister-in-law Madeline Pegelo; and brothers-in-law Norman Golem, Clarence Golem and Harvey Golem.
