Tim McIver

Rhody Family Funeral Home

Timothy Shannon was born Monday, December 3, 1973 in Goderich to James Nelson and Frances “Joyce” (Wilken) McIver. He was one of seven siblings and step-siblings; Stephen, Pam, John, Jeff, Kelsey and Miranda. At the age of seven, Tim’s family moved to Owen Sound where he completed both public and high school at West Hill. Already handy with his hands, Tim went into trade school at Georgian College, also in Owen Sound. After three years of studying carpentry he became employed by Stanley’s Farm Equipment while looking for work in his field.

Tim went on to work for Landmark Builders, The Village and New Heights Building Group, all in Hanover. Given his talent he served as Maintenance Supervisor at The Village and Foreman at both Landmark and New Heights.  Indeed, Tim could do anything; make anything out of anything, building everything there was at “The Lot.” In fact, just days prior to his death, Timothy made a toy chest. He was great at tinkering and never threw anything out.

He was also a man of many passions. Tim loved his ’72 GMC purple truck “Barney”, watching Dale Earnhardt Jr. (#88) race in NASCAR, camping, snowmobiling, four wheeling, fishing and gardening – basically anything that was outdoors. Even though Tim did partake in many winter activities his favourite season was still summer. As varied as his activities were, so was his taste in music and TV shows. He enjoyed watching NCIS, Heartland, MacGyver and Criminal Minds, as well as reading the newspaper flyers. That wasn’t his only indoor activity though as Tim also loved to bake cakes and every Sunday he prepared a roast beef dinner. His drink of choice was Coors Light!

Traveling to Vegas, Florida, the Dominican and up north to Whitefish Lake were all highlights for Tim. And didn’t he love his dogs? Granted they were Shih Tzus but he didn’t discriminate. “Gracie” and “Simba” were his absolute favourites. And cereal, we really need to say something about the love Tim had for sugary cereals. To sit down and finish off an entire box was not uncommon for Tim. In all seriousness though, nothing was more important to Tim than his daughter Morgan. The sun rose and set on her!

While working as a bartender at “Brothers” in Owen Sound he met Nicole. They were united in marriage on June 19, 1999 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Sullivan. Three years later, in 2002, little Morgan was born. His nickname for her? “Monster.”

Tim loved to give gifts, liking to see people smile, as he himself was always smiling. Nikki was always finding chocolate bars – Turtles or Hershey Almonds. Tim was a very caring, creative and loving person. An amazingly talented carpenter, who took great pride in his work and to have him gone is almost unbearable.

Tim succumbed to the silent disease of depression on Monday, December 18, 2017 at the age of 44.

Forever remembered by his wife Nicole. Loving stepfather of Megan (Tyler) Keller of Wellesley and grandfather of Blair. Tim will be forever missed by his daughter Morgan, she was Tim’s world. He was the cherished son of Joyce (Dave) Cuyler of Kincardine and Jim McIver of Mount Forest. Tim will be sadly missed by his siblings Stephen (Eli) McIver, Pam (Rich) Fox, John (Lindsay) Cuyler, Jeff (Michelle) Cuyler, Kelsey and Miranda McIver as well as the entire McIver, Cuyler and Wilken families. Tim’s family would also like to extend a special, heartfelt thank you to Dan Foxcroft and Randy and Lisa Albright and family for all their love and support.

Private family services will be held.

Memorial donations to Wes For Youth Online would be appreciated as a way of creating awareness for mental health.
